Haruna Usman Bello Reporting Live from Abuja Nigeria...

ABUJA-NIGERIA

In a shocking turn of events, the Labour Party has indefinitely suspended Abia State Governor Alex Otti, Senator Ireti Kingibe, Senator Darlington Nwokocha, Hon. Victor Afam Ogene, Hon. Amobi Ogah, and Hon. Seyi Sowunmi from the party and all its activities, effective immediately.

The suspensions were announced in a press statement signed by Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, National Secretary of the Labour Party, on May 7, 2025.

According to the statement, the suspensions were based on allegations of anti-party activities and followed a thorough investigation by a five-man disciplinary committee set up by the party's National Executive Committee (NEC).

The disciplinary committee, headed by Deputy National Chairman Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi, submitted its report to the party leadership, which was subsequently ratified by the NEC.

The suspended members will no longer act on behalf of the party, and all concerned institutions, including the Nigeria Governors Forum, National Assembly, INEC, and security agencies, have been notified.

In a surprising twist, the party explicitly excluded Nenadi Usman from the list of suspended members, citing her non-membership in the Labour Party.

Instead, she is reportedly a member of the Obidient Support group that worked for the party's 2023 presidential candidate.

The party questioned her loyalty, highlighting her recent pledge to another political party alongside a former Kaduna state governor.

The Labour Party also criticized Nenadi Usman for discussing corruption despite her own alleged involvement in corrupt practices.

The party referenced her plea bargain with the EFCC and questioned how she acquired her radio station in Kaduna, properties across Nigeria and abroad, companies in Cameroon, and plantations.

In contrast, the Labour Party emphasized its financial transparency, noting that its audited accounts have been published and commended by INEC's external auditors.

The party's financial records are reportedly among the best among Nigerian political parties

The Labour Party has reaffirmed its decision to contest the 2027 general election as a standalone party, dismissing any potential coalition or merger.

The party's leadership believes that those pushing for a coalition lack the capacity, character, and competence to manage such a political arrangement.

This development has sparked intense debate within the party and among Nigerians.

Some argue that the suspensions are a necessary step to maintain party discipline, while others see it as a purge of prominent members.

Looking at major Key Questions from the political platforms across the world on the exporsion saga of Governor Alex Otti of Abia State.
